- How do you rid our property of pests?
For ground squirrels and pocket gophers, we use the Rodenator system or ground-injected fumigants. The Rodenator system involves injecting a precise mixture of propane and oxygen into the burrow, then detonating it. The concussive force of the underground blast kills the gophers or squirrels immediately, and collapses the burrow.
Ground injected fumigants are used when the Rodenator system is not appropriate, due to topography or noise concerns.
For pest birds and some rodents, our professional, polite and effective pest experts use specialized pre-charged pneumatic air rifles, (pellet guns), in order to safely and selectively reduce the populations of specific pests in difficult environments.
Whether we're managing populations of pigeons, squirrels or gophers, often times, the desired effect is to simply break the breeding cycle of the pest animal, rather than eradicate every one.

- Why can't I just use poisons?
Pest poisons can easily make their way into other areas of the environment, especially if, as commonly occurs, poisoned pests are consumed by other non-pest birds and animals. This often results in secondary effects (death, birth defects, dimished population growth) on birds and animals important to the biological stability and diversity of the area.
Rodentcides, avacides and other pesticides often require multiple applications in order to work, and some pest animals learn to avoid poison bait altogether. Most importantly, many pest animal poisons, in particular anticoagulants, cause tremendous pain and suffering to the animal over a period of hours or days. That's just plain awful. We can solve your pest problems faster, and in a more humane manner.

- How safe is this propane/oxygen system?
In the hands of our trained operators, completely safe, and effective. In actuality, we inject a mixture of only 2% propane to 98% oxygen, so the underground blast that occurs is easily manageable, yet quite effective. Back to top
- How effective is this ground-injected fumigant method for gopher or squirrel control?
It is VERY effective, mostly because the first instinct gophers or squirrels have when threatened is to go deep underground. That works because our system pumps the fumigant throughout the burrow system, and the pests cannot escape it. The fumigant is a widely available, non-restricted-use pesticide that leaves no significant residue. Back to top
- My facility runs all day long. Can you work late in the night, if necessary?
Varmintcontrol.com staff work within the (often late) hours required by most storage/warehouse/agricultural businesses, farms, ranches and estates. Each pest is active or accessible during specific times of day or night. We are there when you need us.

- Are you allowed to shoot pellet guns in my area? Don't you need a permit for this?
In a few instances a permit from the local city, county or state authorities is required. We work with the appropriate authorities, and acquire all permits necessary. We provide you with a copy of the permit before any work is done. For most sites, written permission from the client is all that is needed. Back to top
- How safe are these pellet guns for use in buildings or populated areas?
In the right hands, professional, precision airguns are very safe for pest management. We're not talking about your WalMart pellet rifle. Our airguns are precision instruments tuned to specific power levels for each pest and environment. This means we control how much energy is used, and what the effective range of the airgun is. As opposed to firearms, airguns have a limited effective range. This is desireable, as we often work in confined areas where we don't want a pellet to carry more than a specific amount of energy downrange.

- Can your service help me with erosion and runoff problems caused by gopher and squirrel burrows?
Definitely YES. Use of the propane/oxygen system by a trained technician has the added benefit of destroying and collaspsing the animal's burrow and tunnel system. Back to top
